Abstract

नेपाली सङ्गीत इतिहासकै पहिलो महिला गायक तथा सङ्गीतकार मेलवादेवी चिरपरिचित नाम हो । विशेषगरि शास्त्रीय तथा उपशास्त्रीय सङ्गीतमा दख्खल राखी आधुनिक गायन गर्ने त्यो स्तरको महिला गायिका नेपाली समाजमा अझसम्म नगन्य मात्रामा देखिन्छन् । खनकदार आवाज, दानेदार तयारी गला, ओजपुर्ण र मर्मश्पर्शी गायकी र गायनमा विविधता तथा सिर्जनशिलता उनको गायकीको खासियत हो । प्रस्तुत आलेखमा मेलवादेवी को हुन? उनी कस्को पे्ररणाले उपशास्त्रीय विधाको गायकीमा लागिन् ? उनको गायकी र उनले गाएका गीतमा श्रृङ्गार रसको प्राधान्यता के कस्तो छ? नेपाली समाजमा त्यो किसिमको गायकीको निरन्तरता के कस्तो रुपमा देखिन्छ ? आदि कुराको विश्लेषण प्रस्तुत आलेखमा गरिएको छ । यस आलेखको अध्ययनले समुल रुपमा मेलवादेवीको परिचय, उनको साङ्गीतिक स्तर र तालीम, तत्कालीन सामाजिक परिवेश र उनको साङ्गीतिक यात्राका साथसाथै मुख्यतया उनको श्रृङ्गार रस प्रधान गायकीको बारेमा सङ्गीत क्षेत्रका जो कोहीले पनि आफ्ना अग्रज सङ्गीतज्ञ बारे विश्लेषणयुक्त जानकारी पाउनेछन् । प्राथमिक साथसाथ सहायक स्रोत दुवै प्रयोग गरि उनको समग्र पाटोलाई वर्तमान र भावी पिँढीले पढ्न, सुन्न र बुमm्न सकुन् भन्ने आशयबाट समग्र आलेख तयार गरिएको छ ।

The first female singer and composer in Nepali music history, Melavadevi, is a well-known name. Female singers at the level of modern singing, especially in classical and sub-classical music, are seen in very less numbers in the Nepali society. A tinkling voice, a well prepared throat, dynamic and heart-touching singing, variety in singing styles and creativity are the specialties of her singing. In this article who was Melvadevi? Who inspired her in the semi-classical genre? What is the importance of her singing? How is continuation of that kind of singing seen as a in Nepali society? Analysis of such things has been done in the presented article.
