Pre-harvest application of Nutrients and Growth Substances Reduce Physiological Loss in Weight of Mango Fruits

Abstract

Pre-harvest spraying of mineral nutrients, viz. urea (1% and 2%), borax (0.5 and 1%), GA (50 and 100 ppm), 2,4,5-T (50 and 100 ppm) and MH (500 and 1000 ppm) once at just after fruit set and another at ten days before harvesting were carried out on 21 years old trees of mango cv. Langra. All treatments significantly reduced weight loss during storage. Moreover, the weight loss increased with the prolongation in storage period irrespective of the treatment used. GA at 50 ppm was the most effective treatment in minimizing the physiological loss in weight of mango fruits during storage that reduced physiological loss in weight of fruits by 11.43 percent on the 10th day of storage over control (no spraying).
